Why This Book Exists: A Journey Through Grief and Becoming
There is no manual for losing the person who has held your heart. No guide for waking up each morning to a world that suddenly feels emptier, colder, quieter. Widowhood is raw. It is real. And yet, through all the darkness, there is a way to move — not past your grief, but through it, carrying your love forward while reclaiming yourself.
“Grief is not a path to escape, but a doorway to discovering strength, love, and your truest self.”
Life after loss is not simple. It is layered with grief, love, fear, and hope — and often, the world assumes you’ve “moved on” when your heart still aches. Conscious Mourning Workbook: A Widow’s Journey Through Grief and Becoming was born from my own experience of losing not one, but two beloved husbands, and discovering that remarriage, responsibilities, and daily life did not automatically heal my heart.
I created this book because I wish I had a roadmap when I was navigating the raw, messy, and often lonely path of grief. I learned the hard way that moving on is survival, not healing — that smiling, going back to work, raising children, or even remarrying can mask grief that still lives in your body, mind, and soul.
Then Joe came into my life, and I realized that I had indeed healed this time — my heart, body, and soul were ready to fully receive love again. This workbook reflects that journey: the grief, the integration, and the conscious reclamation of life.
I began this workbook when Paul died. Paul was my safe space — the first man in my life who truly saw me, heard me, and allowed me to be myself without fear of judgment. Losing him felt like losing a piece of my soul. Grief lived in every corner of my being — in my breath, my muscles, my thoughts, and even in my dreams. I realized I had more to learn about love, grief, and myself than I ever imagined.
Then Frank died. Through him, I learned compassion, grace, and the ways love can teach us about surrender. When he passed, I took the lessons I had gathered from losing Paul and began implementing them fully. Slowly, my life began to shift. My heart opened, my body trusted itself again, and my soul felt at home in the world.
The women I worked with — widows, women navigating loss — began to see transformations too. They found strength, voice, and freedom they didn’t know they still possessed. Witnessing their journeys showed me that grief could be a conduit for profound growth, empowerment, and love.
“Healing is not about forgetting; it is about integrating love and loss into a life that is consciously and fully lived.”
This workbook is beyond the circle. It is not just another support group or inspirational read. It is a structured, year-long companion designed to help widows:
